Shuangwei Love: Donation of Casting Tapes to Disaster Areas

Casting tapes are one of the principal products of Nanjing Shuangwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd., a manufacturer dedicated to orthopedic treatment and rehabilitation. “Shuangwei” brand fiberglass casting tapes and splints are a new generation of external orthopedic fixation products, used to support and protect patients undergoing bone or soft-tissue surgery, limb orthopedics and fixation.

Compared with plaster bandages, “Shuangwei” casting tapes offer numerous advantages: high strength, light weight, fast setting, good air permeability, water resistance, X-ray transparency, non-toxic composition, no skin irritation, no odor, ease of application and improved patient comfort.

In recent years, the “Shuangwei” brand has built a solid presence in both domestic and overseas markets on the back of consistent quality. The products are widely used in large and medium-sized city hospitals across China, including Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, the Provincial People’s Hospital and the Nanjing Military District General Hospital, and are covered by medical insurance. They are also exported to Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South America, where they enjoy a strong reputation. The company’s “forming orthopedic brace and method of manufacturing and using” is the subject of a national patent application.

Following the earthquake, casting tapes were urgently needed in the disaster areas. On May 16, the company donated 1,000 rolls of casting tapes (valued at RMB 100,000) to the affected region. After coordinating with the Nanjing Food and Drug Administration, staff worked overtime to process the paperwork so that the products could be sent directly to the 120 emergency center in Chengdu (the Chengdu earthquake-relief headquarters).

Since the earthquake, Shuangwei has closely followed the situation in the disaster zone. On learning from media reports that orthopedic casting tapes and splints were in urgent need, the company arranged for production staff to work overtime to manufacture an additional 3,000 fiberglass bandages (valued at approximately RMB 200,000) for donation. The company has been in contact with the Nanjing Charity Federation and stands ready to deliver medical equipment to the affected areas at any time.

Disasters have no mercy, but people do. We hope these casting tapes will reach those affected as quickly as possible and help our fellow citizens recover and rebuild.
